The Sims 3 have a lot of advantages and disadvantages compared with The Sims 2, depending by each person tastes, each one can be better than other one. Personally I think that The Sims 2 is still the best! If when The Sims 2 appeared it made me to stop playing The Sims 1, this did not happened when The Sims 3 appeared.
